Our spare shaft holder is the highest quality, most reliable spare shaft holder available today. It features a very simple, but effective design concept with no moving parts! The complete assembly installs in just a few minutes and only requires three #8 wood screws.
The shaft is held in the rear tension assembly using a short piece of soft vinyl tubing suspended in a specially machined plastic tube made of durable DuPont "Delrin." A thin rubber shim is placed next to the soft rubber tubing so the tension of the shaft holder can be adjusted if necessary. The rear tension assembly has no moving parts which greatly reduces the possibly of losing a shaft. The shaft holder is constructed with all plastic components and carries a 100% lifetime guarantee
The only maintenance the shaft holder requires is to apply a thin layer of bearing grease or a similar lubricant to the trigger end of all the shafts you plan to use. This lubricates the rear tension assembly every time the shaft is inserted. Without the lubricant the shaft may become difficult to insert or remove from the holder.
Generally, once the tension has been set at the factory the tension rarely needs to be adjusted. However, due to changes in temperature and small variations in shaft diameters from various manufacturers, the tension may have to be adjusted periodically.
Before attempting to adjust the tension of the holder make sure the holder is properly lubricated. If you are sure the holder is sufficiently lubricated but the tension is still too tight or too loose, follow the instructions below.
To decrease the tension of the holder:
- Pull the two pieces of the rear tension assembly apart.
- Remove the red tubing from the holder making sure the black shim comes out with it.
- Using a pair of scissors, slice about 1/16² off of the width (long ways) off the black shim material.
- Place the shim next to the red tubing and slide the tubing and the shim back into the longer side of the rear assembly.
- Slide the two pieces back together. Check the tension by inserting a spearshaft in by hand.
- If tension is still too tight- repeat steps 1 thru 5.
To increase the tension:
- Pull the rear tension assembly apart.
- Remove the red tubing and the black shim.
- You can increase the tension of the holder by adding a thin piece of black electrical tape or a similar type of very thin plastic. Do not use a material that water might erode.
- Slide the two pieces back together and check the tension.
